We are an independent software house based in Wales, dedicated to making fantastic games for all.
Our values: Native Linux games, big free demos, a money-back guarantee and no DRM.
Fun Fact: Our company name originates from the QAOP (up, down, left, right) keys commonly used as a substitute for a real joystick in games running on 80's 8-bit computers.
We develop all our games on Ubuntu Linux, using our in-house, C/C++, cross-platform, HCE game engine. For cross-platform GPU support, the HCE engine uses the low-overhead Vulkan graphics API.
All our native Linux games are built with the Steam-runtime SDK and run inside Steam for Linux which is officially supported on the most recent version of the free Ubuntu Linux OS with the Unity, Gnome, or KDE desktops.
Athough untested at present, all our Linux builds should work on the SteamOS 3.0 based Steam Deck handheld gaming PC.
Additionally, our cross-platform HCE game engine allows us to easily make a Windows 10 & 11 build for Steam on Windows.
We also plan to support SteamVR compatible VR headsets on Linux and Windows in the near future.
Historically, most video games had a demo version, but these days publishers tend to eschew demos for game trailers and heavy marketing. However, we believe that you should be able to try before you buy, so we always offer big demo versions of our games.
We believe in the quality of our games. If you're still not satisfied within a year of purchasing we'll give you a full refund, no questions asked.
All our games are free from DRM (Digital Rights Management) technologies.
Note that if the game is played outside of Steam, then Steam features such as online leaderboards will not work. Also, Steam for Linux games may not run outside of Steam because they are built for the Steam-runtime and may require library dependencies that are not present on your Linux distribution.
We take after-sales support very seriously and won't abandon you after you've made your purchase. More info on our Support page.
If you sign up to our email newsletter, we promise to never spam you or sell your email address or personal details to any third party. All personal details that you provide to us will be held in the strictest confidence (legal requests excepted).
Poqasoft games do not collect any personal data when you play them. The only data that is generated is a log.txt file on your PC which logs the game's startup and shudown process (needed for support requests). This log file only contains hardware information about your PC - no personally identifiable information is recorded.
We do not offer any DLC packs as we believe that games should be released as coherent, high quality complete experiences. Any further updates to a released game will be for bug fixes, quality improvements and hardware support, e.g. VR headsets.
P2E (Play-2-Earn) is a business model where players can earn or purchase unique in-game objects as NFTs (non-fungible tokens based on blockchain technology), whilst playing games. As earning something of value or buying a speculative asset is the primary objective, it's analogous to work or investing. We believe that games should be played purely for entertainment and challenge, so there will never be a P2E, NFT, Crypto or Blockchain based game from Poqasoft. The same applies to lootboxes as these "are structurally and psychologically akin to gambling.".
Freemium mobile games either contain annoying advertising, or are based upon the business model of pretending that the game is free when it is actually crippled in some way and implicitly designed to annoy the player to the extent that money has to be spent to make progress. It is for this reason that we don't make any Freemium mobile games.
Developers and publishers often give away free Steam keys to individuals who can help promote their games, usually via reviews. Unfortunately, this system has been abused and keys often end up on key reseller sites. Because of this situation, Poqasoft only gives out review keys to verified individuals.
If you are a genuine reviewer of indie games or a member of the gaming press, you can request review keys at: email@example.com.
